I just got back from spending a week with my family in Disney World. In case you don’t know we’re one of those families who goes all the time. At this point we probably could have built our own Magic Kingdom with the amount of money we’ve dropped there. I’ve been there 18 times. My mom has been there somewhere in the 60-70 range. OK, you can pick your jaw up now.
It was a blast. Here’s a few photos from the first couple of days.
We celebrated Gigi’s 60th birthday all week. Reid got to blow out her birthday candle.

Big Thunder Mountain is probably my favorite ride in Disney. This is the view climbing to the top of the big drop.

Pops, Aiden and Tom in the car behind me. So fun!

The view from our balcony.

Reid completely mesmerized with his Nintendo DS game system. I don’t think he even saw me.

Awwww, look how cute little Karen is standing in line. That little bugger is hard to keep an eye on. One minute he’s right next to you, the next he’s off running in the crowd.

Nothing beats an ice pop in the blazing heat.

Aiden got to do a cool scavenger hunt in Epcot center. They give you these phones with clues on how to find things. I’ve never seen the boy so focused.

This photo cracks me up. Karen’s trying to mask a face of sheer terror with a fake smile. I think it was his first time going down the slide. The second one is a close crop so you can see the dramatics of his face. Hilarious!!!

While waiting for a couple to arrive for their engagement shoot I came across this guy. He was part of a huge public art project that was going on that day. Artists were all over the the back of the Art Museum creating public art. It was awesome to watch everyone interacting with the pieces.

Every time I see the Golden Arches of McDonald’s I want to throw up. It’s so annoying when you’re driving long distances. There just aren’t any decent meal options. It’s all CRAP!

There is something really nice about receiving a hand written letter. It’s so much more personal than a email.

Hi class. I’m glad you all decided to see how I finished the rest of my trip.
After I left the city of Santa Fe, I drove to a small town called Taos so I could climb the highest mountain in the state of New Mexico. The mountain is called Wheeler Peak and it’s 13,161 feet tall. Now, you guys are only about 3 feet tall so imagine having more than 4000 thousand first graders standing directly on top of your head. Pretty tall huh?
Park rangers put signs like these along the trail so you know where to go. This trail is called the Bull of the Woods. We hiked it all the way to the top of Wheeler Peak.

Even though it was the middle of summer and sunny out it was still pretty chilly. The higher you climb on mountains the colder it gets.

We saw big horned sheep. They were scared of us.

It took us nine hours to climb to the top and back. We walked 15 miles. I was pretty tired and sore after that.

The views were amazing!

At the top of the mountain there was a book filled with blank pieces of paper. Everyone who makes it to the top gets to write their name and date in it. Who knows, maybe someday you’re name will be in it too.

My friend Tracey has wanted me to photograph her for quite some time now. All the pieces finally came together and we were able to spend the early evening on Sunday taking pictures around Boulder, CO.

Rob and I spent Thursday and Friday fishing the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Our afternoons were spent casting to small but beautifully colored brook trout in a crystal clear stream that “S”ed it’s way through lush open meadows. Here’s a quick video so you can see what I’m talking about.
On the second morning we left our campsite and hiked to Big Meadows, two miles back towards the car. It was cool and crisp as most mornings are in the mountains. A shimmery dew clung to the grasses and a light fog hung over the stream. Reaching the other side of the meadow I saw this.

The first week I arrived in Denver I had the pleasure of house sitting at my uncle’s. There is something so peaceful and relaxing about being home all alone. I loved it. Part of the deal was tending to the garden out back; picking tomatoes and cherries and watering the plants. I’ve never really liked cherries but thought I’d give it another try. The ones on this tree look so good. Unfortunately for me they’re still not. I wish I liked them. Heck, I don’t even like the cherry flavored Starbust candies. They go right in the trash.

As I was making my way upstream casting flies to a bunch of nothing I began to hear distant screams. I wasn’t sure what it was so I peered around a curve in the stream to get a better look. Verbatim, “Ooooooooohhhhhhhh yyyyyyeeeeeeaaaaaaahhh, I just discovered a bunch of rafters cliff jumping.” I decided right then and there that I needed to go do that too. I wasn’t catching anything and it was a beautiful hot day. Plus there is nothing quite as refreshing as jumping into an nice cold Rocky Mountain stream. It’ll definitely get your heart pumping.
After a couple jumps I lazed around a while enjoying the warm rays of the sun and an apple. Another group of rafters settled up and started jumping. This crew was a family and every time I look at this photo I can’t help but crack up at the girl falling. Her body language is just so funny to me.
